Two years ago, veteran broadcaster Peter Williams left TVNZ and Auckland to become a talk-back radio host in Tauranga with the aim of spending more time with his wife Sara. We catch up with the former news presenter to find out how he’s enjoying his new chapter.
How are things going with your Magic Mornings radio show?
Well, it seems to have been remarkably successful, I suppose is the best way to put it. It’s been quite challenging – you know, I started when I was almost 65 years of age, so it was like learning a trade just as I was about to pick up the pension. It’s completely different to anything I’ve ever done in broadcasting before. If you run out of things to say, there’s no music you can put on to fill the silence. But it has been really good fun, a great learning experience and we’ve built an audience steadily.
So what do you do when you run out of things to say?
