Japan has some of the snowiest places on earth. Naturally, snow tourism is a great attraction all over Japan. Apart from the famous Snow Festival of Sapporo, there are many snow attractions in the country. To start with, let us have a look at the snowiest places in the country first. Sapporo city, in the prefecture of Hokkaido is the snowiest big city in the country. Its annual average snowfall is about 597 cm. Other important cities and towns receiving good amount of snowfall are Aomori city (669 cm), Tokamachi city, located in the heart of ‘snow country’ (1169 cm), Tsunan town (1349 cm), Myoko-kogen town (1507 cm) and Matsunoyama town (data not available).
While all these snowy cities and towns deserve a visit, another must see snow attraction in the country is the famous Yuki-no- Otani snow canyon, often also called the Snow Corridor or Snow Wall. It is truly a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experience.
