Read Well
Leaders Speak|March 2017

Reading can make children better individuals and can mould them into well-rounded personalities with broad perspectives and high values. It is the basic foundation on which academic skills of an individual are built. This is not just my belief but my experience.

Dr. Upendra Kaushik
Read Well

Let me explain myself more clearly, a good book as with any good story exposes children to a world beyond their own. Reading opens up many more new vistas. Good books possess the power to excite their imagination and draw them into these worlds.

If teachers play a vital role in enhancing the habit of reading, parents also have their significant contribution. Next to imaginative story telling, there is nothing more magical then reading aloud to children. The intimacy, togetherness and magic that are created when a parent reads a book to a child is one of the most important childhood experiences remembered throughout one's life.

The charm of getting good books from parents as gifts, directly or indirectly develops a taste for reading, greater level of concentration and adds to all verbal communication skills. The greatest responsibility of teachers before suggesting various books for reading is the choice and the standard of books. I refer to graded reading here, where the context is appropriate for a particular age and reflects a child's need of development.

A Tipping Point Missed

Before America and the world settle in firmly to the new Donald Trumpbased reality, let’s take a little trip down the road not taken. Suppose we had woken up last Wednesday morning to a President-elect Hillary Clinton. And let’s say that, instead of former Portuguese Prime Minister António Guterres, New Zealand’s Helen Clark or Bulgaria’s Kristalina Georgieva had been picked to succeed Ban Ki-moon as United Nations Secretary-General.Clinton would have joined the United Kingdom’s Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, helping achieve critical mass in the G7. And a female UN Secretary General would have placed women at the helm of two of the world’s three biggest international organizations (France’s Christine Lagarde already runs the International Monetary Fund).

The whole article is divided into 3 parts i.e. Opportunities in higher education, need of global tie ups and research based education. Coping With Exam Stress

The exam season is inevitably associated with words like stress, tension, worries and pressures in our minds. Be it when the exams are approaching, ongoing or when awaiting the exam results. Moreover, the stress levels increase not only for the students, but also for their parents, teachers, tutors, family members at large! However, the ultimate onus eventually falls back on the student, who is responsible for not only working towards performing successfully in the exams, but also to be able to manage the accompanying stressors eff ectively. Furthermore, besides the academic workloads, these additional stressors could vary from the worry of their parents, the expectations of the teachers, the comparison and competition with their peers, or the nagging from their tutors.
