What's Happening in the World of Bass Fishing

The 12th Annual Black Bass World Championships was organised by The International Federation of Sport Fishing in Fresh Water (FIPS-ed) in Collaboration with The Portuguese Sport Fishing Federation. The tournament is run over Three Competition Days on a reverse Grand Prix system that purely relies on Fish Weight, with no points being given for the number of fish caught.

Each Two-man Team is allowed to Weigh their Teams 5 Heaviest fish on each day. Each day is viewed as a separate tournament day with Penalty points available (that count towards the final result) on each of the Three Competition Days. The Heaviest Team Bag per day is allocated 1 point with the Second Heaviest Bag being allocated 2 points and the Third 3 points (and so on).

With Thirty Two- man Teams being represented, the Goal for the Teams is therefore that each Team tries to finish each of the Three Days with the Heaviest Bag of Five Fish, thereby accumulating the Most Weight of Fish as well as the Least Amount of Penalty Points for their Team and Country per day.

All Nations who belong to FIPS-ed are eligible and are Annually invited to send a Team to represent their Country at this Boat Angling event.

This year, the event was held at Lake Alqueva in Portugal from the 17 th to the 22 th of October 2016.

For Insurance purposes, due to the Vastness of the Lake, the number of Shallow Submerged Islands, and the distinct possibility of being able to get hopelessly lost on this large body of water without a GPS to assist you, the participating Teams Rented Locally Skippered Boats that the Portuguese Sport Fishing Federation had arranged for the field to utilise for the event.

Organization Means Everything

While fishing from a Kayak offers many advantages over angling from a boat, Copious Storage Space is not among them, which means a smart Kayak angler has a well-thought plan before venturing onto the water.

Fine Tuning Your Spinnerbait Selection

Among his contemporaries, Matt Herren has long been considered one of the best Spinner bait Fishermen competing on the Bass master ® Elite Series, but all are surprised to learn the Pro actually keeps very few of the popular blade-type lures in his boat. Instead, Herren carries boxes of Spinner bait Components, including Blades, Skirts, and Heads, and Makes his lures on the water as he needs them. “I wouldn’t have enough room in my boat to carry all the different Spinner baits I might want during a tournament,” laughs Herren, “so I keep Boxes of Parts in Different Colors and Weights and put them together as the Conditions Dictate. It only takes a minute or so to make one, so I’m really not losing much time at all, and I can have exactly what I want.”
