Arunachal Pradesh hosted the Indian National Rally Championship’s third leg on a national highway, a first in the history of rally racing.
FRESH OXYGEN, clear skies, green mountains, cold winds and mild rays of sunlight welcomed us at Naharlagun— the closest accessible town to Arunachal Pradesh’s capital city Itanagar via rail. We also had Tommy, a street puppy, who wagged his tail and flashed those gorgeous blue eyes while greeting us.
The beauty of the northeastern-most part of India started to sink in as we drove past dense mountains en route to our hotel in Itanagar. The Rally of Arunachal—co-organised by Tourist Police and the state government—was ready to herald a new beginning in the country’s rally championship history.
The rally was held on National Highway 415, the first time a leg of the FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) was conducted along a national highway, a 59-kilometre stretch from Arunachal’s Banderdewa to Gohpur in Assam. The third INRC leg was contested over seven stages, each phase comprising 14.30km.
