THREE TO WATCH
Silver & Black Illustrated|August 2020
Like all 31 other NFL teams, the Raiders have a certain number of players they are counting on to play major roles in the upcoming season. Guys like Derek Carr, Josh Jacobs, Henry Ruggs III, Cory Middleton, Trent Brown and a few others.
THREE TO WATCH

Then there are the players who don’t generate as much fanfare but who could wind up being the difference between teams that get into the playoffs and those that have to sit out the postseason.

Here are three players who very well could fill that role with Las Vegas:

Cornerback Prince Amukamara: Arguably one of the team’s biggest offseason moves that barely generated a ripple among the national media, the Raiders decision to sign Amukamara to a one-year deal could be one of the more pivotal transactions that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock made, for several reasons.

While he has only 10 career interceptions and has never been to the Pro Bowl in nine previous seasons, Amukamara should fit in nicely with what the Raiders are trying to do on the back end of their defense. The 6-foot, 205-pounder has not been very flashy but he has been effective, as Pro Football Focus has him tabbed as the fifth-best cover corner in the league.

Gruden feeling the heat?

Gruden feeling the heat?

“I know there is a big bull’s-eye on my chest, certainly. If the people want to use that as an incentive, then so be it. I worked for Al Davis in 1998. That was pressure. I was 34 years old. I’ve dealt with pressure before. I don’t really feel pressure. I love the excitement and thrill of competing, and I can’t worry about things I can’t control in that regard. I know people will want to step on me and beat me, and that is just the way this league is.”
