Head coach Vic Fangio has been under fire for many reasons, but he got a little breather following Denver’s win in New England. Fangio’s defense sacked Patriots quarterback Cam Newton four times and forced three turnovers, helping offset an average day from the Broncos offense. That left Denver at 2-3, still on the outside looking in, in the AFC West, but in much better shape than had the Broncos lost and dropped to 1-4. …

Running back Melvin Gordon isn’t exactly settling in comfortably to his new home. The former first-round pick, who left the Los Angeles Chargers to sign with Denver, has not been nearly as productive as the Broncos had hoped for. Gordon had 65 carries through the first five games before being sidelined by strep throat. Gordon, who did not accompany the team to New England, has three touchdowns but Denver’s coach staff was hoping for more as they attempt to limit Philip Lindsay’s workload. Gordon was also recently charged with driving under the influence and could face an NFL suspension as a result. …
