Really Worth The Weight!

As I’m writing this article it’s the middle of February and we’re starting to see the Coronavirus build in strength. Assuming the world hasn’t ended, and I assure you, it’s by pure coincidence, this month I will be looking at pellets from Chinese manufacturer, Qiang Yuan Sports, or QYS for short. Viral pandemics aside, there’s been a fair bit of positive chatter within the airgun community in regard to QYS, so much so that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some sample sets, and thanks to Tim at Pellet Perfect, and the lads at The Shooting Party, I have a good selection to go at.

RUNNERS AND RIDERS

I’ve concentrated on .22 for a while, so I thought it was about time I picked up my .177 version of the excellent Daystate Pulsar and this month, I’ll be looking at four .177 pellets from the extensive QYS range; in the mix I have a couple of streamlined pellets of varying weights, a domed pellet and a pointed pellet. What makes this test additionally interesting is that the packaging claims three of these pellets are exactly the same weight.

As always, close examination is the order of the day, so let’s start with the QYS Domed. This traditional-looking pellet is 6.6mm long with a medium thickness skirt. Details on the packet tell us that the Domed weighs in at 8.48gr.

The next pellet in the line-up is the Streamlined. This has a higher dome than the Domed pellet, but measuring 6.7mm, it’s not much longer. The packet claims that the Streamlined also weighs 8.48gr. In all other respects, the Streamlined looks exactly the same as the Domed.
