Dave Barham has some fun in the sun with the nitrogen-powered Tornado N-RAM pistol from The Shooting Party
Nitro Power!

It’s always nice to get my hands on a break-barrel pistol. Whether it’s powered by a spring or gas-ram, I really don’t mind, it’s just great to have something that doesn’t require CO2 canisters!

Straight out of the box you can tell this is a serious bit of kit. It’s solid, extremely solid, and weighty too. I just knew I was going to have some fun in my back garden whilst testing it.

NITROGEN TECHNOLOGY

The ‘Tornado N-RAM’ from AirForceOne is being distributed in the UK via The Shooting Party. It’s a full power (5+FPE) break-barrel pistol that features a premium grade gas-ram system, rather than a traditional spring and is packed full of features, but more importantly, it’s extremely quiet and easy to shoot. It’s available in both .177 and .22 calibres, appealing to a wider audience. The one sent to me for review is a .22, and let me tell you, it packs a punch! Through the chrono’ I was consistently getting 5.4 ft.lbs using 15.9gr Daystate Rangemaster Sovereign pellets.

The use of a gas-ram drastically reduces recoil and you get far less of that than with a traditional spring action. The gas-ram also produces a faster lock time than a springer, ensuring the pellet leaves the barrel more quickly once the trigger is pulled, which in turn helps to increase accuracy – those nanoseconds really do count, especially when shooting pistols.
