According to our scriptures, a person is said to be born twice in a given lifetime; firstly, when his biological mother gives him birth as an innocent infant, totally ignorant of his surroundings and unable to take care of himself, and secondly when a Guru bestows him with the True Knowledge to make him a human being in the real sense, where after one learns the art of becoming a truly responsible and respectable citizen of society. We can neither repay the debts of a mother nor that of a Guru; for what they have given us is priceless. But, our sincere efforts to absorb the values that they have taught us and reflect them with our actions in our routine life through our code of conduct and discipline will definitely make them happy and content. And, this is the only way we can repay them.
Schools, colleges and other professional institutes perform the duty of imparting knowledge in today's world through well-qualified teachers. But, a few centuries back, in India, aspiring students would go to a gurukul to stay with their Guru for the purpose of acquiring gross as well as Divine Knowledge. The Guru used to be a highly evolved individual in the field of spirituality and literature. Leaving their home, family, relatives, and all other luxuries behind, young lads would stay in the gurukul for years together till their education was complete. The Guru nurtured these young, fragile minds with fathomless love and competent knowledge, and ensured them his divine protection against the evils lurking in society. Strict discipline was observed by the students while staying at the holy feet of their revered Guru, which provided the foundation to their meaningful future life.
