Gotham Knights keeps it all in the family
If we’ve learned anything from comic books, it’s if you can do it yourself, you can do it with superfriends. That’s the driving force behind WB Games Montréal’s Gotham Knights. Though not set in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham series, the game is aping much of what made that trilogy so outstanding. The big difference? Gotham Knights is embracing the action RPG trend to tell a Gothamset story in a new way.

Gotham Knights’ creative director Patrick Redding says: “One of our goals was to really tap into aspects of the Batman universe that hadn’t necessarily had exposure yet in games. We drew on the idea of the Batman Family, really as a core element of that. Family, in general, has become a theme in this game.”

Commissioner Jim Gordon’s dead. Batman’s dead, killed in an explosion. Into the vacuum step Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood to fight crime, uncover the dark, historical mysteries of Gotham City, and earn XP for defeating petty criminals.

We’re told you can switch characters whenever you like, but you must do it at the Belfry. “That’s your home base,” clarifies Redding, who reveals each character will have their own upgrade paths and story arc to play through, as well as the main narrative involving criminal organisation The Court Of Owls.
