THERE IS SOMETHING PLEASING ABOUT MIST AND FOG THAT MAKES IT LOOK DREAMY IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPH. YOU CAN PHOTOGRAPH YOUR SUBJECTS IN A POETIC, ROMANTIC WAY OR MAKE THEM LOOK HAUNTED. CAPTURING SUBJECTS IN THE MIST CAN BE A CHALLENGING TASK AS MIST AND FOG MOVE CONTINUOUSLY, IT CAN FADE AWAY WITHIN A SECOND. THEY HAVE A MOMENTARY FEATURE THAT CAN CERTAINLY CAUSE FLAT, ORDINARY IMAGES. CAPTURING THEM FLAWLESSLY TAKES A LOT OF EXERCISE AND EXPERIMENTATION. MIST AND FOG ARE NOTHING BUT CLOUDS THAT ARE LESS DENSE THAN THE ONES YOU SEE IN THE SKY. YOU CAN DIFFER THEM IN TERMS OF THEIR DENSITY, LONGEVITY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THEIR VISIBILITY. AS WE KNOW MIST IS LESS DENSE THAN FOG, IT LASTS FOR A SHORTER PERIOD AND ALLOWS US TO SEE AS FAR AS 2KM. HOWEVER, IN THE FOG, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE AS FAR AS 1KM.

In this article we will look at how you can use them to your advantage.

Finding a subject

Start your journey with finding a subject for your perfect composition. in the beginning, just observe your surrounding in the mist. identify the frames which can look beautiful in your composition. work on the concept before you start shooting your photo series. once you have a good idea of what story you want to work on, test some shots based on your story. In the beginning, try to keep it as simple as possible. Always remember that beauty lies in the simplicity of your composition. The more you practice and grind on your own stories you will observe improvement in your work with time. In the end, it’s all about the passion you have for photography and you will acquire a vision to showcase your stories through the photographs.

Weather

As the mist and fog can quickly scatter in an instance. It is important to get the timing right. Always check the weather forecast before planning your shoot. Most of the weather sites more or less predict the mist. If you are lucky, you might get perfect pictures in one go or you might have to keep trying till you get the perfect picture. The more you practice, you will notice the perfect time for shooting.

Exposure

The camera might get confused with soft diffused light, so you need to know how to set exposure manually. Getting your exposure right in the mist and fog has always been the trickiest task. Play with different exposure settings and light conditions to get perfect in it.
