Mumbai: In the first half of June, the BMC was struggling to get hospital beds for emergency COVID-19 patients. The situation is vastly changed today. Now, of the 13,500 beds across 141 civic, state and private hospitals and COVID health centres in the city, 4,065 are empty. These include 126 beds for ICU and 67 with attached ventilators. The development comes at a time the BMC is in the process of adding 300 ICU beds.
Civic officials say empty beds are a “positive sign” of the slowing growth rate of coronavirus.
