Navi Mum Joins Other Parts Of MMR In Extending Lockdown
Mumbai: After Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Thane city, Kalyan-Dombivli and Mira-Bhayander on Friday, more cities, towns and rural parts in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region announced an extension of lockdown on Saturday.

Navi Mumbai, Shahpur, Murbad, Ambernath, Kulgaon and Badlapur will be under lockdown till July 19. Ulhasnagar will be shut till July 22, while Panvel, which is under lockdown till Monday, is still to announce an extension. Vasai-Virar has been spared another round of lockdown so far.

While residents, local traders and elected representatives criticized extension of the lockdown in MMR and in Thane rural, civic officials said breaking the transmission chain of Covid-19 requires people to stay indoors. They said a lockdown, coupled with increased testing, will help improve the case doubling rate.
