The Supreme Court(SC) recently ruled that private medical colleges do not have to necessarily admit students under the non-resident Indian (NRI) quota. Private institutions will have the autonomy to decide whether they want to continue with the quota or scrap it, but they will have to inform the applicants within due time.
Dr Rahul Dev Sachan, associate professor, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVM), Kanpur, says that the move will not have any major impact as the decision continues to lie with private colleges.
