New Delhi: Indicating how inadequate existing provisions have been in safeguarding the interests of migrants workers, an RTI response on the number of establishments and migrant workers registered under the Inter-State Migrants Act, 1970 in the past decade states 372 establishments and 84,875 inter-state workers registered under it during 2010-20.
The information provides context to the labour ministry’s response to a Parliament question raised in Rajya Sabha on September 16, where it did not directly answer a specific query regarding whether it had collected the database of migrant workers in various states to monitor their requirements.
