SURYA POWERS MI HOME
The Times of India Hyderabad|October 29, 2020
As soon as he smashed Mo-hammed Siraj for a four through extra cover to win a tense game for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Suryakumar Yadav pointed towards the dugout, calmly reminding them to keep faith in him. It betrayed the emotion of a man who has been deeply hurt by repeatedly being ignored by the national selectors for a berth in the Indian team. The latest being his exclusion from the squad for the tour of Australia barely 24 hours ago.

Letting his bat speak for itself, Yadav quickly picked himself up and produced another match-winning knock. Batting like a dream, the 30-year-old cracked an unbeaten 79 off 43 balls, stroking 10 delightful fours and three sixes to take the Mumbai Indians home single-handedly in a crucial game at Abu Dhabi which was a highly charged affair. It was an innings which made you wonder: just what is wrong with this man that the selectors keep cold-shouldering him again and again?

Nothing is keeping the classy Yadav down at the moment. Not rejection despite performance. Not a raging Virat Kohli who tried to intimidate him with eyeball-to-eyeball contact, which saw Hardik Pandya lose his cool towards the end. Thanks to his blazing bat, MI galloped to a 165-run chase, despite the next highest run-scorer in their innings being Ishan Kishan (25, 19b, 3x4, 1x6). With 16 points in the bag, they’re now the first team to be through to the playoffs.
