Ragpicker Succumbs To Injuries Sustained In Chemical Explosion

A 40-year-old ragpicker succumbed to the injuries he sustained after a box containing unknown chemical substances exploded on a deserted footpath adjacent to the elevated PVNR Expressway in Rajendranagar here, Cyberabad police said on Sunday.

Shamshabad Deputy Commissioner of Police N. Prakash Reddy said the explosion took place around 10.40 a.m. between pillar numbers 279 and 280 when the victim, Syed Khaja Aliuddin, tried to open a plastic box containing chemical substances.

“The victim was trying to sort the rubbish he collected from various locations. When he meddled with a chemical box in a red bag, it exploded. As a result, his hands got severed,” he said, adding that the box exploded with a loud noise.
