Dharavi Is On Corona Radar

Even as the BMC has intensified its battle against the rapid spread of coronavirus in the city, sealing off affected areas completely, a case reported from Dharavi is causing serious concern.

The first coronavirus patient to be reported from the area, a 56-year old man from Dharavi's Shahu Nagar with no recent travel history, succumbed to the disease on Wednesday night.

A garment shop owner in Dharavi, he had a fever, cold and cough since March 23. However, he kept visiting a local general practitioner in the area and was on general medication.

Neither the GP, nor the deceased, took serious note of the symptoms. On March 28, only after his health deteriorated, was he taken to Sion Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment since.
