NEW DELHI: As the fourth phase of the lockdown came to an end on Sunday, India registered its highest ever single-day spike in new infections. With 8,380 new cases in the last 24 hours, the country’s tally climbed to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164 after recording an increase of 193 new fatalities.
India has now become the world’s seventh worst-hit country in terms of Coronavirus cases after US, Brazil, Russia, UK, Spain and Italy.
There are only 89,995 COVID-19 active cases as 86,984 people have recovered so far at the rate of 47.75 per cent. In the last 24 hours, 4,614 patients were found cured.
