Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana made the announcement as he said it was Santos who told him about his condition.

“This morning [Friday] I was informed by CSAFP Gen. Santos that he tested positive for the COVID-19 the result he got yesterday [Thursday],” Lorenzana told reporters.

Bulacan Rep. Henry Villarica also tested positive for COVID-19, the House of Representatives announced Thursday night.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will place herself under self- quarantine as a precaution against possible COVID-19 infection.

“Given the recently unfortunate news that the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) Chief of Staff has tested positive for COVID-19, I will be undergoing self-quarantine as I was exposed to him in a meeting last March 20,” said Puyat in a statement.

She said that she is currently asymptomatic.

“Since I do not show any signs nor symptoms, I will not be having myself tested in order to save the limited supply of testing kits for use on people who truly need it,” said Puyat.

“By staying at home, I will not put anyone I come in contact with at risk. The safety of those around me is my priority,” she added.

Puyat said that she will continue to perform her duties as secretary of tourism.

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III also said that an undersecretary of the department tested positive for the virus.

Department of Education (DepEd) National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Director Malcolm Garma has confirmed that an official from the Schools Division in Mandaluyong City has tested positive for COVID-19. The official was present in Tuguegarao for the duration of DepEd’s two recent national events.
