Women wrestling stars fail to impress as Vinesh settles for bronze, Sakshi silver
Chetan Sharma

It was not such an inspiring day for Indian women wrestlers at the KD Jadhav indoor stadium as none of the big names managed to live up to their reputation on the fourth day of the Asian Championships here on Friday.

On Thursday, India won three gold medals and there were hopes that two gold medals would be a certainty for Vinesh Phogat (53kg) and Sakshi Malik (65kg). However, Vinesh managed to win barely a bronze and Sakshi ended up with a silver.

During her final bout, Rio Olympic Bronze medallist Sakshi was seen totally in defensive mode. Japan’s Naomi Ruike took two points lead in the first round and she kept attacking the Indian in the second round as well. Sakshi was doing nothing but trying to save herself.
