At the core of the twin problem of plastic pollution and mounting urban waste is faulty or virtually zero implementation of existing regulations such as the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 and rules relating to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
These are the key tools already available to curb plastic pollution. They lack implementation and working mechanism to monitor compliance. EPR, as the name says, puts the onus of treatment or disposal of post-consumer products on companies or producers.
