On Thursday, a robber jumped inside a car and started driving it as a shocked woman, sitting at the back, screamed for help.

The incident in North-East Delhi’s Gopalpur took place when the 34year-old was waiting for her driver who had left the keys in the ignition while stepping out to buy water.

After a 2-km chase, cops got close and caught Prince Sharma who hadn’t realised that there was somebody in the car when he tried to steal it.

On July 20, a Delhi Police officer was wounded while fighting off two men who attempted to rob his car at gunpoint in Outer Delhi’s Alipur. He was hit on his head, nose and face before being rescued, along with his wife and toddler, by locals. The carjackers were arrested.

With Metro shut and people preferring to drive in Covid time, vehicle theft cases are spiralling in Delhi, prompting cops to mark hotspots, tighten patrolling and widen CCTV surveillance, Mail Today has learnt.
