Probe Agency Must Produce Transcripts Of Inx Media Case, Chidambaram Tells Apex Court.
EVEN as the CBI is quizzing former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media case, his lawyers on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that there was “no case” for investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The bench of justice R Banumathi and AS Bopanna extended the interim protection from arrest by the ED till August 28, as the arguments in his plea for anticipatory bail could not be completed.
“The investigation in the case has been incorrect since the beginning,” argued senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, adding that while the ED allegation states that the offence was triggered by act of taking bribe and grant of FIPB approval in May 2009, the PMLA act did not allow for a ED probe into such allegations.
