Tipping A Hat To History..

Locals in the home village of murdered Bloody Sunday captain Michael Hogan unveiled a statue in his memory yesterday – as his countymen were winning a first Munster title in 85 years.

And in another twist of history Cavan defeated raging hot favourites Donegal to claim their only Ulster crown since 1997.

The two unlikely victories left the 2020 Championship with the same semi-finalists as in 1920, including the two teams who played on Bloody Sunday – Tipperary and Dublin who are joined by Cavan and Mayo. The stunning day of results came after an emotional Saturday night ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the slaughter at Croke Park. Tipperary captain Hogan was one of those shot dead.

Remarkably as a statue to him was unveiled in his home village, Tipp were ending an 85-year wait for silverware by defeating Cork on their home Pairc Ui Chaoimh turf.
