A patient advocacy group has hit out after it was revealed 22 nursing homes have coronavirus clusters and 25% of Covid-19 cases are healthcare workers.

The scathing criticism came as Nursing Homes Ireland insisted the testing for staff has not been happening quickly enough.

Hilary O’Neill. of the South East Patient Advocacy Group yesterday said not enough personal protective equipment has been provided. She added: “It’s an unmitigated disaster what’s going on. I am really annoyed.

“If you think about it, 25% of confirmed cases are healthcare workers, 22 nursing homes now have clusters, several testing centres had to close because they were running out of tests.
