Nuns ‘gift' land for new baby hospital

THE Religious Sisters of Charity have “gifted” land at St Vincent’s Hospital to the State for the new National Maternity Hospital.

The order confirmed it has received approval from the Vatican to transfer the ownership of the Dublin site worth €200million to the people of Ireland.

The Sisters stepped down from the board of St Vincent’s Hospital Group in July 2017.

A spokeswoman stated: “Today marks the final movement towards completion of all legal, financial and regulatory matters involved in the transfer of the Sisters’ 186-year involvement in the hospital.”
