Ireland is lagging behind in its emissions reduction targets despite Covid-19 and the largest decrease since 2011.

The country’s greenhouse gas output fell by 4.5% last year, new data from the Environmental Protection Agency revealed yesterday.

Environment Minister Eamon Ryan described it as a “a step in the right direction”, however, Ireland is now under pressure to meet its objectives.

The new report, which revealed Covid-19 had helped to improve the situation, stated the country will still exceed the annual allocation by 6.98 Megatonnes.
