Mum-of-two Stephanie Murphy went from weighing 16st 10.5lbs and “barely being able to get up off the floor” to running mini marathons after Slimming World helped her shed the pounds.
The 32-year-old told RSVP Live: “I’d been overweight all my life. I had an accident at a concert when I was 13, a really bad fall. I broke my hip and I was on crutches for the guts of a year.
“I had been struggling with my weight before that but because I was so active, it wasn’t really a big issue until then.”
Stephanie had three operations on her hip before doctors said there was nothing more they could do – she needed a hip replacement.
Stephanie said: “Consultants were telling me I needed to lose weight before I could have the operation.
“My mam brought me to Unislim when I was 14 but it didn’t work for me, it was just too restrictive.”
The Wicklow woman added she began to develop defence mechanisms to cope with her physical insecurities.
