Air We Allowed Yo Fly Or Not?

New Government ministers must say whether we can fly abroad for the summer holidays.

Confusion reigns over whether we can get away for sun breaks this year after conflicting views from within political circles and from health chiefs.

And opposition politicians want ministers to get straight to work and clarify where we stand with international air travel.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan has been firm in his advice that we should not hit the skies because the risk of re-importation of coronavirus is too high.

The strict top doc is asking people to cancel their holidays abroad because of this.

Former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said last week that the new “green list” of safe countries to fly to would be published on July 9.

But since then the advice from new ministers, including Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan, was more cautious.

They said the list coming on July 9 would not signal the skies were open again straight away, and that any easing of quarantine r ul e s would be based on “scientific” advice. New Taoiseach, Micheal Martin, backed this up too.

It all leaves ordinary punters confused and any booked sun holiday plans they have are now in limbo.
