A huge explosion near the centre of Beirut killed at least 25 people, injured over 2,500 and sent shockwaves across the Lebanese capital, shattering windows and causing apartment balconies to collapse, witnesses and security sources said.
The blast occurred in the city’s port area, where there were warehouses housing explosives, Lebanon’s state news agency NNA and two security sources said.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, offered condolences to the people of Lebanon after the horrific port explosions.
Sheikh Mohammed said, “Our condolences to our beloved people in Lebanon... Oh God, have mercy on those... Oh God, give the people of Lebanon patience and solace...”
Dr. Anwar Bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said on Twiter, “Our hearts are with Beirut and its people.
“Our prayers during these difficult hours are that the God to protect the brotherly Lebanon and the Lebanese people, and to heal their wounds, and keep their homes safe from sorrows and pain.”
