Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned on Saturday that there should not be any lapses in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, though he gave equal stress to the revival of economic activity.
Modi sat with senior ministers and officials on Saturday, even as the number of COVID-19 infections in the country climbed to 8,20,916 after a single-day record spike of 27,114 new positive cases and was seen poised for the one million mark.
The PM backed stringent measures including a total lockdown brought by states in areas that are seeing a spiralling of cases, like Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
“Awareness about COVID-19 should be disseminated widely and a continuous emphasis on preventing the spread of the infection should be laid,” he said.
“Social distancing and personal hygiene guideline should be continued to be followed.” The PM said he was happy about the concerted efforts of the Centre, State and local authorities in containing the pandemic situation in Delhi.
A similar approach can be taken in other states as well.
