India registered over 150,000 cases of COVID 19 on Thursday morning, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held consultations as he readied to address the nation on the fifth phase of the national lockdown that would begin on June 1.
Officials claimed the Centre has already started preparing the roadmap ahead for another extension, which the government wants to be the final exit plan for the country.
The moves come as the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 4,337 and the total number of cases climbed to 1,58,333 in the country, registering an increase of 194 deaths and 6,566 new cases in the last 24 hours, as per the Union health ministry data.
The focus of restrictions will be in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Thane, Indore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Surat and Kolkata.
The Centre wants containment zones to remain as they are, with all activities barred. The Centre will come up with a list of activities that will remain prohibited across the country - notwithstanding the number of cases.
