Egypt on Saturday lited many restrictions put in place against the coronavirus pandemic, reopening cafes, clubs, gyms and theaters after more than three months of closure, despite a continued upward trend in new infections.
Authorities also allowed the limited reopening of mosques and churches, and lited the nighttime curfew.
However, mosques and churches will not be allowed to hold their weekly main services, when large crowds traditionally gather for worship.
The government has banned Friday’s Muslim prayers at mosques and Sunday masses at churches.
A pledging summit on Saturday raised 6.15 billion euros ($6.9 billion) to tackle COVID-19.
The event was part of a joint initiative by the European Commission and the advocacy group Global Citizen and included a star-studded globally televised and streamed concert.
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) on Saturday announced that it has conducted additional 52,527 COVID-19 tests, which revealed 387 new cases.
The new cases bring the total number of cases to 47,360.
