An oncologist has contradicted mammogram myths with the hope of encouraging more people to go for this form of screening which he has described as the “golden standard” for the early diagnosis and prevention of the progression of breast cancer.
“I believe it will be good for the people,” Al Zahra Hospital (Dubai) Surgical Oncology director Dr. Sadir Alrawi said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
Alrawi’s mammogram myths-busting was timely as on Tuesday, Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHaP) officials namely Public Health Sector-Centres and Clinic's assistant undersecretary Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Health Education, and Promotion Department director Dr. Fadila Mohamed Sherif, and Maternal and Child Health Department head Dr Esmat Al Qassim, in a press release, pointed out the significance of the mammogram. All four urged the qualified – women from age 40 and above – not to procrastinate to keep breast cancer, one of the commonest with exponential rates worldwide, at bay.
