WE WILL SURVIVE

GORDON TAYLOR admits football is facing a unique crisis.

But the players’ union boss insists they will find a way to help clubs and players survive the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Professional Footballers’ Association held crisis talks with the EFL and Premier League yesterday with player welfare at the top of the agenda.

They agreed to keep an open dialogue and also discussed games taking place behind closed doors – which is not the PFA’s preferred option.

Plus, regular medical updates to ensure it is safe for players to return to training as well as setting up an emergency fund.

PFA chief executive Taylor said: “It’s a worldwide situation and we have to adopt a humane stance, a practical stance not just for the good of our 5,000 current members but also the 50,000 former members.

“We have to find a common policy throughout the leagues when it comes to things like wages, training schedules and the safety of our members.

“We are talking and talks will carry on with nothing offthe table as we have to do what we can for the good of the game.
