Rioters were warned they face the “full force of the law” after 30 police officers were hurt when a street party erupted into violence.
Footage showed yobs smashing up cop cars and hurling bottles as a mob of hundreds confronted officers on Wednesday night.
Home Secretary Priti Patel called the carnage “utterly vile”.
And Boris Johnson’s spokesman said the government will seek to double the maximum sentence for assaulting an emergency worker.
He said: “We have been clear that anyone who assaults the police or any of our emergency service workers who keep us safe should feel the full force of the law.”
