Detective Superintendent Gerry McBride said the community was “appalled” that children could have been killed in the attacks.
He said: “First and foremost we’d like to share the voices of Inverclyde in expressing our disgust and how sickened we are at these recent fire attacks.
“Our information and our inquiries have led us to believe they are targeted at individuals to some extent.
