Shoppers formed long queues yesterday to get back into their favorite high-street stores as lockdown measures were eased in Scotland.

Non-essential shops with street access were allowed to welcome customers for the first time since the start of the coronavirus crisis.

Scores of excited Primark fans waited for hours to get into branches in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.

A queue formed outside Primark on Argyle Street, Glasgow, at about 6 am – even though the doors didn’t open for another two hours and the weather was miserable.

People also waited in lines for other big fashion retailers, such as Zara, to open in the city. The stores had to follow new rules, such as only using half of their tills and installing Perspex screens at checkouts.

Changing rooms are to stay closed to minimize the risk of spreading the virus and there’s a limit on the number of customers allowed inside at any one time.

Nicola Sturgeon urged Scots not to “squander” progress made in fighting the virus since the lockdown started on March 23.
