And one health board has had to cancel its vaccination roll-out after admitting it was struggling to meet demand.

Elderly Scots told how appointment letters arrived days after the date and others have to travel long distances to get a jag.

Ann Booth, 74, normally gets hers at her local health centre but has been told that this year she will have to travel from her home in Germiston, Glasgow, to Bridgeton, meaning she will need to take three buses each way.

The retired factory worker, who has been shielding since March, said: “I have lung conditions COPD and bronchiectasis and also have chronic kidney disease.
