Jan Collins is anything but par for the course – the big-hearted pensioner is putting his way to raising thousands for charity.
The 90-year-old keen golfer from Troon, Ayrshire, set himself a target last week of completing 1000 holes in his own garden to raise £5000 for STV Children’s Appeal’s emergency coronavirus campaign before his 91st birthday on June 10.
But due to the incredible response so far, which has seen him raise £7800 by last night, Jan has set himself a new target of completing the 1000 holes by next Thursday – the day Scots will be allowed to return to golf courses.
He said: “This means I have to spend all day playing golf. I’m getting up earlier than normal, having a power nap in the middle of the day to conserve my energy, then going again each evening until 9pm.
“I’m now halfway to my target and very hopeful the weather holds out so I can reach it by May 28.
