A visually impaired man who flew to the Canary Islands for a three-week break ended up being stranded there for five months because of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Willie Tanner finally made it home to Broughty Ferry, Dundee, last Friday.

The 62-year-old former bank worker flew out to Lanzarote on March 3.

The initial shock when lockdown hit was tempered by an understanding hotel owner, who allowed him to stay for as long as he needed.

But he then had to battle through red tape to obtain life-saving medication and began to worry he could suffer a repeat aneurysm, the first of which several years ago left him with hemianopia.
