Research has shown if you’re happy with your home, you’re more likely to be content in all aspects of your life.

We’ve found some simple, inexpensive design tricks to create a space that will lift your spirits, boost wellbeing and make you smile.

FOREST FEELINGS

Research shows indoor plants have a positive effect on our wellbeing, helping to lower blood pressure and stress levels.

Plants like chrysanthemums and peace lilies can even help detox the air of common household pollutants and toxins found in synthetic fabrics and paint.

Cluster a group of different-sized plant pots together for maximum design impact, suggests Victoria Harrison, author of Happy By Design.

She added: “Odd numbers always work better than even so try a group of three or five. To add interest to bookshelves, alternate stacks of books with potted plants.

“Trailing ivy brings a sense of grandeur, or dot smaller plants in coloured pots to match the bright book spines.”
