Government Tell Councils..It's Up To You To End Scenes Like This

The Scottish Government is demanding councils wipe out homelessness in the aftermath of Covid-19.

The Record can reveal the plug is being pulled on central funding for hotel rooms for rough sleepers at the end of August.

And the spotlight will fall on councils to find decent homes for those who will otherwise face a deadly winter on the streets.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “Our first priority is to ensure no-one returns to rough sleeping following the pandemic.

“We have provided more than £1.5million to third-sector organisations to enable them to acquire emergency hotel accommodation for people experiencing rough sleeping or in unsuitable accommodation.

“However, this is a temporary measure to ensure people are kept safe at this time.
