The hot money is on us notching the warmest day of the year this week.

As the mini-heatwave burns on amid the lockdown, forecasters expect the mercury to top the 28.2C recorded last week at Santon Downham in Suffolk.

Forecaster Greg Dewhurst said: “It’s hotter than the Mediterranean and it’s going to stay like it all week.

“We’re going to see temperatures well above the average. It’ll get even hotter as we approach the weekend with 28C possible on Sunday.

“It could beat the record for the hottest day of the year so far.”

The outlook sparked concern for public safety as lockdown-weary people began to hit beaches again.
