Motherhood Wonderland
Daily Mirror - Sri Lanka|August 12, 2020
You are never right nor are you ever wrong. Sleeping all night uninterrupted is an experience that everyone else in the world enjoys but you. Making pizza costumes at midnight because your daughter suddenly remembered it’s assembly day at school tomorrow. Always looking for missing socks, hoping you’ll find your sanity as well in the pile of never ending laundry. The fights, the standoffs, the ardent proclamations of your unfairness because you favoured one child over the other. The verification that you could be the world’s worst mother, as the spurned child reinforces your darkest fears. Your days are never your own, you have a diary not for your own appointments but filled with the children’s commitments, soccer matches, piano recitals, birthday parties, endless.
Motherhood Wonderland

But all is not completely lost. You will be rewarded along the way, the butterfly kisses and sticky hugs, the proud proclamations of you’re awesome Mum. Yes, the love might have been motivated because you suggested it’s pizza night. Bribery and corruption are your tools of trade. YES, this is motherhood and you are not only knee deep but head and shoulders drowning in it. And as the famous meme goes, Motherhood is indeed a 24/7 job, with no sick days or time offs, so bolster up the truckloads of motivation, it’s going to hit you like a car crash.

Motherhood is both an intense and transformative experience in a woman’s life, and along with any intense situation, it also holds major highs and crushing lows. The day your baby enters the world is a day filled with unmeasurable joy. You are personally changed as a human being forever. Surprised by the intensity of love felt for this new human, you walk through that rite of passage in which you acquire the cloak of invincibility that all mothers have, your child is your number one priority.
