Captain Sir Tom Moore is lauded for his fundraising laps around the garden but as a younger man his circuits were a bit quicker – on a vintage motorbike.

Tom Laps Up His Luck As Old Speedway Bike Is Found

He won a clutch of trophies racing in the 1940s and 1950s and the photo, right, shows him astride his rebuilt 1912-vintage Scott Flying Squirrel, which has now been found.

As a youngster the Yorkshireman, had a keen interest in motorcycles, particularly those designed, built and sold by Bradford’s Scott Motorcycle Company, which was at its peak during the 1920s and 1930s.
