Medical chiefs welcomed a “steady decline” in coronavirus deaths yesterday as the number of newly-reported fatalities was put at 545.

The figure confirmed at the daily Government briefing brought the number of people who have died after testing positive for Covid-19 to 35,341.

Professor Dame Angela McLean, deputy chief scientific adviser, said there was a continued “steady decline” in the number of virus linked deaths.
