Britons on holiday scrambling home as countries seal borders

HUNDREDS of thousands of Britons are scrambling to return home after several countries went into lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic.

Many countries are introducing drastic curfews and travel restrictions in a desperate attempt to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Hong Kong – all with ex-pat communities and popular with UK tourists – began limiting flights, sparking chaos at airports.

Almost five million Britons live abroad while an estimated 350,000 are on holiday around the world.

Millions more have had their Easter and summer vacation plans wrecked as Europe shuts its borders.
